History

South Central High School, the newest high school in Pitt County, officially opened its doors in the 2002–2003 school year. The school was thoughtfully designed with input from students, Pitt County Schools representatives, and board members, who collaboratively selected the name, school colors, and mascot. Black and maroon were chosen to represent the school, and the falcon was proudly adopted as the mascot.

Initially serving only freshmen and sophomores, the school expanded each year to include additional grade levels. By the 2004–2005 school year, South Central High School had its first full complement of grades 9–12 and celebrated its inaugural graduating class.

In the 2024–2025 academic year, South Central High School earned a “B” performance rating, reflecting the school's continued commitment to academic excellence and student success.
